The UWA has gazetted outstanding sport fishing sites at both Lake Mburo and along River Nile in Murchison falls National Park.

Fish stocks in Uganda are well preserved after the government lifted a fishing ban for local fishermen who were on the verge of depleting the lake and therefore, avid anglers have various unique opportunities for a thrilling African adventure fishing experience.

Sport Fishing Safari Locations

Entebbe Lake Victoria Peninsular fishing communities

Lake Victoria which is the largest lake in the whole of Africa as well as the second largest water body with fresh water in the world is actually shared by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

There are very many fishing villages in Lake Victoria but the major one is located on Kasenyi landing site in Entebbe.

Here different people can be seen fishing on the shores of Lake Victoria as they cast out nets with bait to catch some fish.

The fishing village is filled with different ethnic groups but to note is that the largest of the population are men and most of the people here are married with children.

Ssese Islands in Lake Victoria

Ssese Islands are located at the heart of  Lake Victoria and are a good place for one to go for an adventure sport fishing safari in Uganda.

It’s a quiet place with good scenery and offers you the privacy you need when it comes to sport fishing. Just like in other sport fishing locations, you will need to carry your own fishing equipment or gears.

For 5 days and 4 nights you can also take a Ssese Island Fishing Trip to the most secretive Islands of Ssese. The trip to Ssese Islands will connect you to over 80 small collections of Islands deep in Lake Victoria and smaller ones adjacent right off Entebbe Main Land in Uganda. The Ssese Islands are actually an unspoiled paradise with the biggest part of it unoccupied except by roaming local fishermen, and covered by dense tropical forest that are inhabited by monkeys as well as birds. Other than the Nile perch, additional local fish species caught here include tilapia and lung fish among others.

Ggaba landing site

Ggaba landing site is used as a trading center for fish and is located on the shores of Lake Victoria and close to Kampala city. The fishing at Ggaba is done mostly a distance away from the shore in the middle of the lake and the most common fish that is caught includes; Tilapia, silver fish, Nile perch, catfish and lung fish. The fishermen use moist boats for fishing and have since abandoned using canoes.

Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo contains around six species of fish, with tilapia being the most common. The designated fishing spot is at Mazinga and the most commonly caught fish species is the Tilapia. Lake Mburo is located in the Western part of Uganda in Lake Mburo National park. This is known to be one of the best destinations for those who love spot fishing.

Murchison Falls National Park

Sport fishing in Murchison Falls National Park is quite rewarding for the avid angler. There are great opportunities to land a large Nile Perch “mputa” or Cat-fish “semutundu“. Other fish include Tiger fish, Electric cat-fish, Tilapia, “Ngara”. The record largest Nile Perch was 113 Kgs landed at at the water gauge opposite the crocodile pool, and the largest cat-fish was 45 Kgs landed near the Nyamusika Cliffs. Although sport fishing at the moment is done at the base of the Murchison falls, it has two major sites found near Karuma falls at Chobe lodge and the other below the Murchison falls.

Lake Albert

Situated in the heart of Africa and the Western arm of the East African valley, on the border between Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo, Lake Albert is steadily growing to become a sought-after water body in Uganda after Lake Victoria, George and Edward.

Oil was discovered below the lake, and exploration activities are ongoing. Lake Albert, also known as Albert Nyanza and formerly named lake Mobutu Ssese Sseko, after former President of the DR Congo/Zaire is the world’s twenty-seventh largest lake by volume with a width of 30 Kilometers and length of 160 Kilometers.

Lake Albert was spotted in 1864 by Sir Samuel White Baker, who was looking for the source of the White Nile. He called it Albert Nyanza, after the recently deceased at the time, Prince Albert.

Motorized Boat charters for sport fishing trip excursions are made hustle free at our Outback fishing camp.

With full access to a fleet of five fiber glass motorized boats, the avid angler can choose the vessel suitable to the particular unique sport fishing needs.

Smaller wooden or fiber non-motorized boats can be chartered for short fishing trips near Entebbe Mainland and adjacent Peninsular fishing Islands.

There are also group sized 2 double engine boats for longer fishing trips deep into the Lake Victoria and far islands.
